Edo State University Postgraduate Courses & Admission – This is to inform all interested candidates that wish to apply for the Edo State University (EDSU) postgraduate admission that the list of postgraduate programmes and admission requirements for the 2022/2023 academic session has been published.

Below is the list of newly approved/accredited courses:

EDSU Post Graduate Courses Offered in Edo State University

Below is the list of post graduate courses offered at the Edo State University (EDSU), their duration and their admission Requirements. Interested candidates should kindly check before applying.

A. FACULTY OF ARTS, MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

  • Five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics at the ‘O’ level/SSCE.
  • Bachelor’s Degrees in Accounting or related areas not lower than Third Class Division from recognized Universities.
  • Bachelor’s Degrees with at least second class lower Division in areas not related to Administration (Accounting) may be considered.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND).
  • Relevant professional qualifications.

Duration of PGD Accounting

  • Minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in Accounting

  • First Degree in Accounting or relevant area from a recognized University with the minimum of Second Class Lower division.
  • A Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from a recognized university.

Duration of M.Sc. Accounting

  • Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Economics

  • Five credit passes, including English and Mathematics at the ‘O’ level/SSCE
  • Bachelors’ degree of not less than 3rd Class Honour degree from an approved University.
  • HND and/or professional qualifications cognate to Economics from a recognized institution.

Duration of PGD Economics programme

  • A minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Economics

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics from an approved University with the minimum of 2nd Class lower degree.
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from a recognized University.

Duration of Programme (M.Sc. Economics)

  • Minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics from an approved University with a minimum of a 2nd Class Lower degree.
  • Master’s (M.Sc.) degree in Economics with a CGPA of at least 4.0 on a 5.0 point scale or B grade (60%).

Duration of PhD Economics Programme

  • A minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

  • Five credit passes including Mathematics, English, History or Government at the ‘O’ Level.
  • Bachelors degree in Arts (B.A.) in History, History and International Studies, History and Diplomatic Studies, History and International Relations as well as History and Strategic Studies with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division degree.

Duration of Masters of Art (M.A.) Programmes

  • A minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme

  • Master’s degree in History or its variants from a recognized university, with a B grade (60%) or a CGPA not below 3.5 on a five-point scale.

Duration of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme

  • A minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Political Science

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division in Political Science or related disciplines. Candidates with Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from a recognized University in Political Science or related disciplines will also be considered.

Duration of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Political Science Programme

  • A minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters maximum.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science, Public Administration and other related subject areas from Edo University Iyamho or other recognized Universities with at least 60% or Master’s degree with CGPA of at least 3.50 on a 5.0 scale.

Duration of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science Programme

  • Minimum duration of six (6) Semesters minimum and ten (10) semesters maximum.

FACULTY OF BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry

  • B.Sc. Biochemistry with a minimum of Second Class Lower or any acceptable equivalents.
  • Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) Examination with five (5) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics at not more than two sittings.

Duration of Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry Programme

  • A minimum of three (3) semesters (18 months) and a maximum of six (6) semesters (36 months).

Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry (PhD Biochemistry)

  • M.Sc. Biochemistry with a minimum average of 60% in the Master’s programme.

Duration of Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry (PhD Biochemistry) programme

  • A minimum of six (6) semesters (36 months) and a maximum of ten (10) semesters (60 months)

C. FACULTY OF SCIENCE

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Computer Science

  • Five Credit Passes, including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at ‘O’ Level.
  • At least a Third Class Honours degree from a recognized University
  • Higher National Diploma (HND)
  • Professional qualifications such as CPN CPE, ACCA, ICCA, ICAN, AIB, or other recognized equivalent qualifications with relevant industrial experience.

Duration of PGD Computer Science Programme

  • A minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science

  • Five credit passes including English, Mathematics and two other relevant science subjects at ‘O’ Level
  • A good first degree with at least Second Class (Lower Division) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science/Management from Edo State University, or any other recognized University.
  • At least a Second Class (Lower Division) Degree in Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or B.Sc. (Ed) Computer Science may be considered for admission, and such candidates will be required to make up for any deficiencies in their preparation by taking and passing some relevant undergraduate courses.
  • PGD in Computer Science.

Duration of M.Sc. in Computer Science Programme

  • A minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters.

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Computer Science

  • This is a research-based Programme for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months. To be eligible for admission, a candidate must have a Master Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science

  • Five credits in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and GCE at Ordinary Level.
  • Master Degree (M.Sc.) in Computer Science with a weighted average of 60% or a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale.

Duration of PhD in Computer Science Programme

  • A minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programme in Microbiology

  • The first degree of Edo University Iyamho or any other recognized University in Microbiology or related department not below 3rd Class Honour.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in Microbiology and relevant disciplines
  • Five Credit Passes including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at ‘O’ Level.

Duration of PGD in Microbiology Programme:

  • A minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of four (4) semesters.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programme in Microbiology

  • At least Second Class Lower Division in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Agricultural Biology, Biology and Botany.
  • Five Credit Passes including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at ‘O’ Level.

Duration of M.Sc. in Microbiology Programme

  • A minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Microbiology

  • M.Sc. degree in Microbiology with minimum CGPA of 3.5 or 60% or average grade.
  • Five credit passes, including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at ‘O’ Level.

Duration of PhD in Microbiology the Programme

  • A minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters.
  • Areas of Specialization: Environmental Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Food and Industrial Microbiology
