KUST Postgraduate Courses and Admission Requirements

Below are the criteria for the various postgraduate programs available in the institution;

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

Applicants applying for any of the PGD courses offered in KUST must meet the following requirements:
i. First and foremost, applicants must obtain a minimum of 5 (Five) credit passes including English Language and Mathematics at ‘O’ Level in not more than two sittings.

ii. Candidates must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized University or HND from any recognized Polytechnic in Nigeria not lower than Third Class, or its equivalent to be eligible to apply.

iii) In addition to the above, Candidates with a Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Merit in a related field of study from a Polytechnic or any recognized institution

iv) Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class (Lower Division) in an area not related to the field applying for may be considered

Academic Master Degree Programmes
Applicants applying for Academic Masters Degree courses offered in KUST must meet the following requirements:

i. Applicants must obtain a minimum of 5 (five) credit passes including English Language and Mathematics at ‘O’ Level in not more than two sittings.

ii. In addition to the above, Candidates must have obtained a first Degree from Kano State University of Science & Technology – KUST or any recognized university in a relevant field with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division); and

iii. Lastly, Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 is also eligible.

Professional Master Degree Programmes
Applicants applying for professional Master’s Degree programmes offered in KUST must meet the following requirements:

i) Firstly, apply candidates must be graduates of KUST or any recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelor’s Degree in relevant areas with at least second class honours lower division or its equivalent.

ii) Secondly, candidates whose degrees are unclassified with an average of “C” or 50% may also apply.

(iii) Thirdly, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in the third division who have at least three years of relevant working experience are also eligible.

iv) Fourthly, Candidates who possess HND (not HD) with at least a lower credit pass from a recognized institution and at least a Lower credit pass at Postgraduate Diploma of KUST or any other recognized institution in the relevant areas.

v) Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.

vi) Candidates may be required to pass the examination prescribed by the postgraduate school in consultation with relevant Departments to which they are seeking admission to determine their suitability for postgraduate work.
