NYSC Exemption Letter/Certificate – Collection & Replacement

NYSC Exemption Certificate | NYSC Exemption Letter – The Management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has approved a new policy on return of unclaimed original copies of the NYSC Certificate of Exemption that were not collected after three months of issuance.

What is NYSC Exemption Letter?

The NYSC exemption certificate is a document issued to any fresh graduate who is exempted from the NYSC one year compulsory service due to any of the reasons contained in section 2(1) of the National Youth Service Corps Decree of 1993. This exemption certificate is issued in lieu of NYSC Certificate of National Service if required.

Why NYSC Exemption Letter

In accordance with the National Youth Service Corps Decree 1993 section 2 subsection (1) it is stipulated that;

“With effect from 1st August, 1985, a person shall NOT be called upon to serve in the service corps if, at the date of graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification” :

1. 1. He is over the age of thirty (30) years
   2. He has served in the Armed Forces of the Federation or the Nigeria Police Force for a period of more than nine months; or
   3. He is a member of staff of any of the following:
   4. 1. The Nigerian Security Organization or
      2. The State Security Service, or
      3. The National Intelligence Agency or
      4. The Defence Intelligence Service
   5. He has been conferred with any National Honour.

These categories of persons are therefore exempted from service and issued with the Certificates of Exemption.

How to Print NYSC Exemption Letter

Printing of exemption letter is very easy and is not complicated with its processes. You just need to log on to the official NYSC online portal (www.portal.nysc.org.ng) with your credentials and password.

On the portal, look out for an option to ‘print Exemption Certificate’

How to Collect NYSC Exemption Letter/Certificate?

You must note that the process flow for applying and printing NYSC exemption certificate is different for Nigerian graduates and foreign graduates. To collect your Exemption letter, you have to first complete your online registration on nysc portal [CLICK HERE], make payment of N3,000 excluding processing fee

After payment, wait for your call up number [click here] to show on your dashboard

Immediately you see the call-up number, Your exemption certificate will be forwarded to your institution 3 months after registration.
